You have that friend. If I have him, you have him; if I'm writing this and it's being posted on the web, and you're reading it, you know the guy I'm talking about. The graphic design friend. He's a great guy. He's into anime and Macs and is always there when you need him-well, maybe not when, but he's around. See, your graphic design friend is your friend, and you're his. You don't always rate as top customer. That's why, when it comes to graphic design, you should never, never, never rule out free clipart. If you do, you're stuck on your friend's timing. (And he's always behind.) Whenever the layout editor needed a graphic for the paste up, two options were available: produce it or find it. In both cases, the graphic was located separately before being cut out or "clipped" to fit the space on the paste up. This clip art procedure carried over to the introduction of the first desktop computers with VCN Execuvision developing a professionally-drawn digital clipart library in 1983. Throughout the '80's and '90's, the popularity of clipart grew to fill the increasing need made by the rise of desktop publishing. Soon, gone were the days of physical camera-ready paste ups-though, as with clipart, the term persisted-and in came the days of Illustrator, PageMaker, Publisher, and more. Modern clipart sprawls itself across the web, whether as decoration for a website or as actual web content. Image and graphics libraries seem to spring up as readily as weeds in the summer, ranging from lower-end groupings of images to high-quality, high-volume clipart libraries. Stock photography has also started to come into vogue as an alternative to clipart, which is usually illustrated by hand or computer. Of the several ways that clipart can be accessed, clipart in the public domain-where the creator has divested her or himself of all copyright and donated the art away-tends to be the most popular. An interesting problem arises, however, whenever clipart in the public domain is downloaded and edited. Technically, a person who edits clipart creates his or her own copyright for it. More and more, though, courts and laws are working to help facilitate the easy spread of clipart while preserving the rights of those who want to hold on to it. Generally, image copyright gets its lease royalty-free so that clipart users can tackle their project with one payment and no worries. Of course, free clipart still bounces around online and is often a viable alternative. All the way from pencils and paste ups to photos and desktop publishing, clipart makes its mark in the arts.

PowerPoint presentations. Adding a few Christmas Clipart images or other holiday images could really spice up a PowerPoint during that time of year. Your friend usually doesn't take advantage of you. If he did, you'd probably drop-kick his game console during the night or something (he might be your roommate, after all). That at least keeps him on his toes-or the edge of his rolling office seat-but he still lets your work slide behind the other work. He comes in first, his customers second, and you, his friend, come in third. You might think that free clipart is a cop-out. If you have the graphic design friend, after all, he can probably get you some pretty sweet free graphics (or design them at least for cheap). We're here to say, though, that your friend-wonderful, potato-chip-consuming guy that he is-does not prevent you from using free clipart as a viable design tool. Scrapbooking is a fun and popular hobby. There are new techniques and products introduced all of the time. Many folks love to browse craft stores for just the perfect scrapbooking supplies, while others are happy to search the internet for the wonderful freebies available now days. Why spend a fortune of scrapbooking goodies when you can find many of what you need with a simple Google search. Some designers actually make their available online in its original format, so that you can download it and make some changes, as well as resize it, though most will only supply a high resolution version that can be used up to a certain size poster. A Google search for.svg clip art will give you vector art you can use in Inkscape, and in fact some of it is exceptional.

1. Clipart and Holidays Religious clipart can also be used in the LDS homeschool in ways that may not be permitted in a public school. Parents might use ideas from Primary websites or printables from Young Women and youth websites to help reinforce the lessons taught on Sundays at Church. Invite small children to color images of the Savior or Prophets while you read a story from the Friend Magazine or scriptures. Older children will enjoy receiving a mirror sign with a special message they can see as they prepare for the day's activities. So for that reason, a lot of people turn to the internet when they are searching for clipart designs to spruce up their digital creations. Sometimes you can find these easily and they're free and really well designed. But sometimes, honestly, not so much. A lot of the people who run free Xmas clipart sites have a tendency to put up a lot of ads that show up in the places where you are trying to download clipart. You probably know you have standard stock clipart with your Microsoft package. You click on INSERT --> PICTURE and then type in what subject type of picture category you want....and you get a few samples that pop up. But there's really not very many to choose from. Kind of boring.
