Standard clipart is usually not a very detailed drawing. Mostly they are images that have little detail or are outline drawings. The standard clipart is for use on the web to use in documents. There are so many ways to use it... print on a brown paper and you can wrap coffee cups, print on regular or colored paper and then use scrapbooking die cuts to fancy up the edges for a doily effect, or, resize the clipart to small, convert it to a gray and print a repeating pattern on the paper which can even be used to wrap small presents, or as placemats, even origami! Other businesses go easy on frills, preferring a no-nonsense approach to work. This might work for undertakers and similarly macabre enterprises, but it's not going to work for an entertainment company. The reality falls somewhere between these town extreme examples. Some business can afford to skim on the frills - in fact, it's often tasteful that they do - but many others can't. If your business falls into the second category, what to do?
Using wooden balls for Santa's head, glue on a pair of jiggly eyes or paint some eyes. If you have Christmas clipart graphic images, you can cut out a picture of Santa's face and glue it to the ball. Glue the ball on the top of the ornament. Then add cotton to serve as his hair on the head, mustache and as his beard. The potential number of uses for Clipart in documents and web design is infinite. The only thing limiting the creative use of images is the imagination and ability of the user. Just a few interesting pictures downloaded from online sources and used as Clipart can improve the look of virtually any document and the right images will transform it into one that people will actually want to look at and enjoy. Christmas day is magical, but we often forget what makes it so great. All month long you have been getting invitations and fliers to parties, dinners, and gift exchanges in your neighborhood. What did all of these fliers look like? Were they plain white paper with size 12 font, Times New Roman? No, of course not! They were exciting with unique fonts and loaded with Christmas clipart! These Santa graphics spice up the holiday season like you can't believe! That is one reason why people often pay for a membership in a clipart site. They get to choose from a huge number of clipart designs for one small fee. It saves a lot of time, and if you have a bit of money that you could use to invest in a big time saver, then this would be a place to put it.
I take the clipart and then print it out in various sizes for how I want to use it. I can drop it off at the cake decorator's so that she can make me a cake with that pattern. Then, I email a copy to my husband's work so that he can print out a few copies in a larger format. These become cut outs that I place on the walls... almost like a logo. The type of clipart that I use is important for all of the different effects that I'm creating. It needs to be a vector drawing for sure, as non-vector drawings are bitmaps that don't resize nicely... they'll just get all bumpy and not look good. Also, I'm drawn to simply line art because if it's too complex sometimes it doesn't look as good in the different sizes. It's also good if it's a single color, usually black, because then I can change it to whatever I want quite easily just using simple graphics software. Just remember, simple is better, is cleaner, and usually creates a more sophisicated look. Do make sure your cartoon advertising character reflects positive attributes: friendly, helpful, intelligent, likable and smart. Inkscape is also widely used by a lot of people, many of whom have created tutorials showing you how to use the software, and that makes it even easier to download a piece of vector clip art and use it in your project.
